Using the tools

Where the ten calculators are, what they share, and how to read the figures, rails and verdict each one returns.

Updated View as Markdown

The tools are ten calculators that each answer one question without a dive plan behind them: a mix at one depth, a fill, a breathing rate, an oxygen exposure. They use the same limits and checks the planner applies to a plan.

Finding the tools

  • On a desktop: choose Tools in the rail. The list of tools sits beside the open tool, and the section reopens on the tool you used last.
  • On a phone: Tools is not on the tab bar. Open Home and choose the Tools card. The list fills the screen; choose a tool to open it, and the back chevron returns to the list.
The tool list on a phone

The tools are grouped as they are in the app:

Every figure is worked out on your device, so the tools work offline and need no connection or sign-in to the server. What you type is remembered on this device only; it is not saved to your account and does not follow you to another one.

Reading a result

Each tool shows its question at the top, the fields, and a readout that updates as you type.

  • The main figure answers the question. Supporting figures sit below it.
  • The rail under a figure is a gauge. A solid mark is a hard limit; a dashed mark is an advisory. The fill turns amber past an advisory and red past a limit. Every mark carries its value in words beside it.
  • The verdict is the sentence under the figures. It gives the most serious finding, or the all-clear, in words.
  • The method note at the foot of the tool says which convention the figures follow.

When an input is refused, such as an end pressure above the start pressure, the verdict says why and the figures from the last accepted inputs stay on screen in grey until you correct it.

What the consumption tools share

Gas needed, Turn pressure and Minimum gas read the same Breathing and Cylinder fields, so you set your RMV, cylinder Size, each, Start pressure, Cylinders and Water once, and a change in one tool shows in the other two. RMV from a dive can write a measured RMV into them with its Use button.

Every tool works at sea level. There is no altitude setting; plan a dive at altitude in the planner, which accounts for it.
